| The Claddagh Ring, two hands holding a crowned heart, for over 3 hundred years, has symbolised love, loyalty and friendship. The history of the Claddagh Ring, or this type of ring is believed by some to have been used as a betrothal or friendship ring since roman times. However, more substantiated folklore concerns a journeyman named Joyce of Galway, who in the 16th century is believed to have been enslaved to a master goldsmith who taught him his craft and subsequently set him free. Then, after returning to the small village in the west of Ireland named Claddagh, Joyce handcrafted the now famous Claddagh Ring. |
