| The Claddagh Ring is said to have originated as a betrothal ring some 400 years ago in Claddagh, a fishing village on the shores of Galway Bay on Ireland's west coast.
Its unique design shows two hands holding a crowned heart symbolising Love, Loyalty and Friendship.
If the ring is received from a loved one the heart is worn pointing towards the wearer's heart.
