Newgrange Spirals
| This famous Tri-spiral was carved more than 5000 years ago at the end of a burial passage, at the point where the shaft of sunlight from the entrance falls at sunrise on 21st December.
The design, one of the best examples of stone carving in pre-roman Europe, is executed with great skill and is a symbol which must have been of deep significance to the neolithic people of Ireland in their search for the mystery of existance and their understanding of the cosmos.
One of the most extraordinary aspects of Newgrange is that the great burial chamber has been carbon dated to several hundred years before the oldest Egyptian Pyramids. |
